Sophie Newbould

Managing Director

Sophie Newbould is founder and managing director of Newboulds Solicitors.

She created Newboulds to help companies win business and deliver technology products and services to the public sector and other regulated markets, by ensuring adherence to relevant laws, regulations and other legal frameworks.

Sophie’s background spans corporate, commercial and government legal work at the highest levels. Her decisive approach to business means clients receive clarity, simplicity and rapid execution.

A UK-licensed solicitor, Sophie holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Law, Technology and Global Governance from the University of London; a Master of Laws degree in International Business Law from King's College London and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from London’s City University.

On top of impressive academic achievement, Sophie’s stellar career has seen her work as a business lawyer for private companies, law firms, county councils, the UK police and central government.

As a commercial lawyer at The Police ICT Company, Sophie advised on ICT procurements, business opportunity risk strategy, commercial terms and data handling.

She has served as a Commercial Contracts Advisor for the UK Home Office, as an EU Exit Contracts Advisor with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and acted in a legal advisory capacity on a number of significant projects, including the Department for Transport (DfT) Rail Projects Team, and as a Major Project Lawyer for the UK Gambling Commission.

While still advising national public sector clients, and utilising her public sector technology experience, in 2019 Sophie co-founded automation software provider, Athensys, which helps suppliers and authorities work together more effectively.

Today, as well as shaping a bright future for Newboulds Solicitors and its ever-growing client roster, Sophie acts as a consultant to the Bank of England, advising on strategic commercial policies and procedures. She is also working on her own new company, a groundbreaking legal and regulatory sustainability project - innov8law. innov8law is the first technology platform of its kind to provide states, institutions, and corporations with international sustainability compliance integrity.

When not resolving complex commercial legal issues for some of the UK’s most innovative technology companies and public sector organisations, Sophie can be found serving as a Local Public Services Committee Member for TechUK, helping shape government policy and transform local public service provision.
